Discovery is every child’s delight —
Each stage of life is full with its own charms.
I’m old. I’ve learned I can’t evade life’s harms,
But still I hope to see the world aright.
Surprise abounds, its burial quite shallow,
But once discovered, truth is hard to swallow.
The poet I admired in 8th grade
Was preying on his daughter in her youth.
Corrupt elites have kept us from the truth —
Their purpose is to make us all afraid.
With every fact, each reference point that dies,
I feel a reverent sense of wonder grow.
The counsel of Socrates is to know
Nothing. Someday I hope to be so wise.
